A few U.S. Corp of Engineer Lakes I have visited and found to be relaxing, nice places to visit.

This lake is quite popular, which is likely explained by a number of factors. First, the lake is not far from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. It is a great getaway place for a large metropolitan area. Second, there are a number of nice parks that are located along its shore. Lynn Creek Park, Loyd Park, and Cedar Hill State Park are all nice parks. Third, the lake obviously attracts many boaters and fishermen. There are two marinas and a number of boat launches that allow easy access for those that want to get on the lake. Finally, with the size of the lake and the natural areas around it there are also opportunities for many different kinds of recreation besides boating and camping. Swimming, hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching and other wildlife watching, and other activities are all available at Joe Pool Lake.

This lake shares many characteristics with Joe Pool Lake: its near a major metropolitan area (Atlanta), it has numerous campgrounds and parks, has eight(!) marinas, and there are lots of ways to enjoy yourself for an afternoon, a day, or a week of days.
